New year metaphor

Bij het begin van dit jaar een metafoor:
Een trochophora larve is een vroeg ontwikkelingsstadium van zowel schaaldieren als wormen. Evenzo zien we te zijner tijd wel wat het nieuwe jaar ons brengt.

At the start of this year a metaphor:
A trochophore larva is an early developmental stage of both molluscs and worms. Likewise, in due time we will see what the new year will bring.

2011

Also in the next year, 2011, I will respond visually to the legacy of Leopold Blaschka and his son Rudolf, the Dresden glass workers.
This activity is added to editing my manuscript “Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka : formation and development of the glass model makers.”

Ook het komende jaar, 2011, zal ik beeldend reageren op de nalatenschap van Leopold Blaschka en zijn zoon Rudolf, de glasvormers uit Dresden.
Deze activiteit staat naast het bewerken van mijn manuscript “Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka : formation and development of the glass model makers.”

The jellyfish species Crambessa tagi was first described by the German zoologist Ernst Haeckel 
(see blogs 26/11/109 and  2/12/2010)

1980s work found a home

Op 28 december 2010 kwam het bericht dat de Utrechtse Kunstuitleen een aquarel van me bij een bedrijf heeft geplaatst.
Midden jaren 80 zocht ik in landschappen naar lijnen, die de aanwezigheid van mensen verraden: de lijnen van wegen, sloten, architectuur. Het kunnen ook lijnen zijn die je niet ziet, maar vermoedt, zoals de lijnen van start- en landingsbanen, of van diepgelegen kanalen.

On December 28, 2010, the Utrecht Art Lending Foundation reported that one of my watercolours was placed at a business.
In the mid 1980s I focussed on lines, which indicate the presence of man: the lines of roads, ditches, architecture. They might also be the lines that you don’t see, but that are suggested, like the lines of take-off and landing strips, or of deeply located canals.
